By the sun and its daylight
By the moon when it reflects it
By the day when it unveils it
By the night when it covers it
By the sky and what raised it
By the earth and what has endlessly spread it.
By the soul and what balanced it
Then [what] instilled in it its depravity and its piety
He indeed has succeeded, the one who has purified it
While he indeed has failed, the one who has buried it.
Thamūd denied [the warning] with their unrestrained transgression
when they sent forth their most wretched.
For a messenger of Allah had warned them, “A camel of Allah and [she has right to] her fill of water.”
But they called him a liar and hamstrung her, and for their trespass their Rabb thundered destruction upon them and so levelled it [i.e. the nation of Thamūd].
And not did he [i.e., the most wretched] fear its aftermath!
