He frowned and turned away
because the blind man came to him.
But how are you to know? Perhaps he may be purified,
or he may be reminded, and so the reminder would benefit him.
As for the one who is well-off and considers himself in need of no one,
to him you gave your attention
when it is not your responsibility as to whether or not he is purified!
As for the one who came to you striving earnestly,
and was fearful,
you did not give him your attention!
No indeed! This is a reminder,
so whoever wills shall remember it.
It is in honourable Scrolls,
exalted and purified.
It is by the hands of scribes,
noble and pious.
Woe to the human being, how unappreciative he is!
From what thing did He create him?
From a tiny drop, He created him and proportioned him.
Then He made the path easy for him.
Then He put him to death and into the grave.
Then, when He wills, He resurrects him.
But no! He has not done what He commanded him.
The human being should look at his food:
We have poured down the water abundantly,
then We split the earth into furrows
and grew in it grains,
grapes and herbs,
olives and palm trees,
and dense gardens,
as well as fruits and grass
as an enjoyment for you and your livestock.
Then when the deafening blast comes,
on the Day when a man flees from his brother,
his mother and father,
as well as his wife and his children;
each man on that Day will have concerns that preoccupy him.
Some faces on that Day will be radiant,
laughing and rejoicing.
And other faces on that Day will be covered with dust
and overcome with gloom;
those are the depraved disbelievers.
