He frowned, and turned away,
that the blind man interrupted him.
What can make you ascertain? He could be purifying himself.
Or he takes heed— and thus the Reminder would benefit him?
As for him who considers himself self-sufficient
— you are occupied with him.
And it depends not on you that he does not purify himself.
And as for the one who interrupted you, he is purposefully hurrying,
while in awe
So, concerning him you are inattentive.
No! Indeed, they [i.e., the revelations] are a reminder
Thus, whosoever has willed has remembered HIM
through honored scrolls
exalted, purified
by hands of scribes
noble, virtuous.
Slain [of heart] is man. How ungrateful is he!
From which entity did HE create him?
From a drop of semen, HE created him, then HE measured out for him,
Then the path— HE paved with ease for him.
Then HE caused him to die— HE committed him to a grave.
Then when HE wills, HE will resurrect him.
By no means! He has not yet completed what HE has commanded him.
So then [for a sign], let man look at his food:
WE poured down the water— pouring after pouring,
Further to that, WE cleaved the earth to yield.
Then WE caused the grain to grow in it,
and vineyards and herbs
and olive-trees and date palms
and thick orchards
and delicious fruits and fodder—
A provision for you and for your livestock.
So, when the calamitous day arrives,
a day when the individual shall flee from his brother
and his mother and his father,
and his wife and his children—
For each individual among them that day is a preoccupying concern detaching him for all else.
[A countless many] faces that day exuding light,
In wonderment, exuding joy.
While [a countless many] faces that day— dust upon them.
Gloom overcoming them.
Those— they are the degenerate disbelievers.
