By the dispatches, bearing beneficence:
By the stormers with storming force
By the disseminators’ disseminating far and wide
By the differentiators differentiating
By the presenters offering a reminder
absolving, or warning—
Of certain, what you are promised is definite to happen.
So then when the stars are erased
And the sky is parted
And when the mountains are pulverized
And when the messengers are situated in their appointed time
For which day are these deferred?
— For the Day of Sorting [true from false].
What defines for you what the Day of Sorting is?
Woe, that day, unto the truth-beliers.
Did WE not eliminate the former ones?
And then WE had the others to follow them?
Thus, do WE deal with the flouters of divine guidance
Woe, that day, unto the truth-beliers.
Have WE not created you from an organic discharge?
Then placed it in an ingrained lodgment
through to a determined measure.
Thus, do WE measure out— how perfectly do WE ever measure out.
Woe, that day, unto the truth-beliers.
Have WE not made the earth a container—
of the living as well as the dead?
And WE have placed therein towering, anchored mountains, and WE have slaked you with water, fresh and sweet.
Woe, that day, unto the truth-beliers.
Head on towards what you had been persistently denying
Head to a shelter, comprising three spatial sections—
Not shaded, and without avail against the flame
Indeed, bursting out with volleys of sparks—like a towering fortification
[collapsing under the fire] as if it were ropes, reduced to nothingness.
Woe, that day, unto the truth-beliers.
This day they do not articulate,
Neither is it permitted to them that they contemplate excuses.
Woe, that day, unto the truth-beliers.
This is the Day of Sorting. WE have gathered you and all the preceding ones.
So, if there be a plan you have— then out-plan ME.
Woe, that day, unto the truth-beliers.
Indeed, the God-conscious are amidst shades and springs
And delicious fruits from whatever they desire:
“Eat and drink pleasurably, on account of what you were doing.”
Indeed, that is how WE recompense the ones who do good in selfless devotion to God.
Woe that day, unto the truth-beliers.
“Eat and indulge in worldly pursuits, a little. Surely, you are flouters of divine guidance.”
Woe, that day, unto the truth-beliers.
And when it said to them, “Bow!” They do not bow.
Woe, that day, unto the truth-beliers.
So, in which message after it [i.e., the Quran] will they believe?
