Surah “The Rock, Stoneland, Rock City”

as rendered by A. S. Mohamed — 99 verses

A.L.R. These are the signs of the Book and a clear Quran.
Perhaps those who disbelieved would wish they were Submitters.
Leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and be preoccupied with hope, for they will surely come to know.
We never annihilated any village without it having a known decree.
No nation can advance its appointed term, nor can they delay it.
They said, "O you upon whom the Reminder was brought down, you are crazy.
Why do you not bring us the angels if you are of the truthful ones?"
We do not bring down the angels except with the truth, and then they would not be granted respite.
Indeed, it is We who brought down the Reminder, and We will surely preserveit.
We have sent others before you to the sects of the previous ones.
Never did a messenger come to them without them ridiculing him.
Thus do We insert it into the hearts of the criminals.
They do not believe in it, even though the precedent of the previous ones has passed away.
And if We were to open for them a gate unto the sky, through which they would continue to ascend,
they would say, "Our sight has been dazzled. In fact, we are a bewitched people."
We have placed constellations in the sky, and We adorned it for the beholders.
And We guarded it against every outcast devil,
except for one who tries to eavesdrop and is pursued by a clear meteor.
As for the earth, We extended it and placed therein stabilisers, and We grew in it a balance of everything.
We have made for you livelihoods in it and also for those whom you do not provide for.
There is not a thing that We do not possess its treasuries. And We do not bring it down except in a known measure.
And We sent the pollinating winds, and We brought down water from the sky which We provided for you to drink. You are not the ones who store it.
It is We who bring to life and put to death, and We are the Inheritors.
And We have already known those of you who progress, and We have already known those who regress.
And indeed, it is your Lord who will gather them. He is Wise, Knowledgeable.
And We created the human being from clay, formed from altered dark mud.
And the jinn, We created previously from scorching fire.
Your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being from clay, formed from altered dark mud.
Once I have fashioned him and blown into him from My Ruh, you shall fall prostrate to him."
So all the angels fell prostrate, every one of them,
except Satan. He refused to be with the prostrators.
He said, "O Satan, what is the matter with you that you are not among the prostrators?"
He said, "I am not to prostrate to a human being whom You created from clay, formed from altered dark mud."
He said, "Then get out of it, for you are outcast.
And indeed, the curse is upon you until the Day of the Religion."
He said, "My Lord, then grant me respite until the Day they are resurrected."
He said, "You are among those granted respite
until the Day whose time is known."
He said, "My Lord, since You have led me astray, I will adorn things for them in the earth, and I will lead them all astray,
except those among them who are Your purified servants."
He said, "This is a straight path that I make binding:
You have no authority over My servants but only over those who follow you of the strayers.
Hell is the appointed place for all of them.
It has seven gates, and for each gate among them is an allocated share of them."
Indeed, the reverent will be in gardens and springs.
"Enter it peacefully and securely."
We stripped away the animosity that was in their chests. Like brothers, they will be resting on couches facing one another.
No fatigue shall touch them therein, nor will they be evicted therefrom.
Inform My servants that it is indeed I who is the Forgiver, the Merciful.
And that My punishment is indeed the painful punishment.
Inform them of Abraham's guests.
When they entered upon him, they said, "Peace." He said, "We feel wary of you."
They said, "Do not be afraid. We give you good news of a knowledgeable son."
He said, "Do you give me good news when old age is now upon me? What then is the good news that you bring me?"
They said, "The good news that we have given you is the truth, so do not be of those who despair."
He said, "Who despairs of his Lord's mercy except for the misguided ones?"
He said, "So what is your mission, O messengers?"
They said, "We have been sent to a criminal people,
except for Lot's family; we will save them all
except his wife. We decreed her to be one of those who stayed behind."
So when the messengers came to Lot's family,
he said, "You are an unknown people."
They said, "We bring you that which they have been doubting.
We bring you the truth, and we are truthful.
So travel with your family sometime during the night. Follow behind them and let none of you look back, then proceed to where you are commanded."
We made this decree be known to him: the last remnant of these people will be cut off in the morning.
The people of the town came seeking the news.
He said, "These are my guests, so do not shame me.
Reverence God, and do not disgrace me."
They said, "Did we not command you to stay away from all people?"
He said, "Here are my daughters if you must."
By your life! They were blundering blindly in their drunkenness.
Consequently, the blast struck them at sunrise.
We turned it upside down and rained down upon them stones made of baked clay.
Indeed, in that are signs for the discerning.
And it lies on an established path.
Indeed, in that is a sign for the believers.
The Companions of the Woods were transgressors.
So We inflicted retribution upon them. They are both documented in a clear Record.
The people of Al-Hijr denied the messengers.
We gave them Our signs, but they turned away from them.
They used to carve from the mountains homes, providing them with security.
Then, the blast struck them in the morning.
What they used to earn never did avail them.
We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them except with truth. The Hour is surely coming, so overlook gracefully.
Indeed, your Lord is the Knowledgeable Creator.
We have given you seven of the pairs and the Great Quran.
Do not stare with envy at the enjoyments We granted some couples among them. Do not grieve over them, and lower your wing to the believers.
And say, "I am indeed the clear warner."
Just as We struck down on the dividers
who reduced the Quran to fragments;
by your Lord, We will call all of them to account
for what they used to do.
Therefore, proclaim what you have been commanded and turn away from the mushrikeen.
We are sufficient for you against the mockers
who set up another god besides God. They will surely come to know.
We know that your chest is distressed by what they say.
So glorify your Lord with praise, and be among the prostrators,
and worship your Lord until certainty comes to you.
