By the sun and its forenoon.
By the moon when it follows it.
By the day when it reveals it.
By the night when it covers it.
By the sky and what built it.
By the earth and what spread it.
By a soul and what made it uniform,
Then He inspired it its wickedness and its piety.
Certainly he prospered who purified it.
And certainly disappointed is he who corrupted it.
Thamud denied in their immoderation,
When the most unprosperous of them was sent.
Then the messenger of God said to them, 'The she-camel of God and her share of drink.'
Then they called him a liar, then they hamstrung her, then their Lord snarled at them for their sin, then He levelled it.
And He fears not its consequence.
