Surah “The Tidings, The Announcement”

as rendered by Samy Mahdy — 40 verses

About what, they are asking?
About the Great Important News.
Which they are in it, disagreeing.
Nay, they will know.
Then Nay, they will know.
Did We not set up the earth as bedding?
And the mountains as pegs?
And We created you in pairs?
And We set up your sleep a Repose?
And We set up the night as apparel?
And We set up the daytime as a livelihood activity?
And We built above you seven strong (Skies)?
And We set up a glowing lamp?
And We sent down from the rainy clouds, heavy pouring water?
We bring out grains and plants by it.
And thick foliage paradises?
Surely, the decisive adjudication day is an appointed time.
On a Day when the Trumpet is blown, so you come in cohorts.
And the sky was opened up, so it was doors.
And the mountains were moved, so they were a mirage.
Surely, Gohanam (Hell) was an observatory lookout.
For the tyrants a place of return.
They are tarrying therein for time periods.
They will not taste therein neither coolness, nor drink.
Except scalding water, and purulence.
A compatible penalty.
Surely, they were not expecting a reckoning.
And they falsified with Our verses, a falsification.
And everything We have enumerated in a written book.
So, taste! We will not increase you except for torment.
Surely for the pious, a winning.
Gardens and grapevines.
And girls (Have beautiful breasts), are equal in age.
And a goblet is overflowing.
They will not hear therein neither chatter, nor lies.
Award from your Lord, a reckoning grant.
Lord of the skies and the earth, and whatever between them, Al-Rahman (The Widely merciful), they have not owned from Him a Speech.
On a Day when the Spirit and the angels stand in row. They will not speak, except whom Al-Rahman (The Widely merciful) has permitted for him, and he said the correct.
That is the right Day. So, whoever wills, takes to his Lord a place of return.
Surely, We have warned you of a near torment, on a Day when a person will observe what his hands have forwarded, and the infidel will say, “O, I wish I was dust.”
