Surah “The Emissaries, Winds Sent Forth”

as rendered by Linda “iLHam” Barto — 50 verses

Consider the hurled (gusts), one after another.
Consider the winds blowing violently…
…and scattering far and wide…
…and then making distinction.
Consider those who relay the reminder [of God’s Word],…
…whether explanation or warning.
Honestly, what you are promised will come to pass.
When the stars are smothered!
When the sky splits apart!
When the mountains convulse and crumble!
When the messengers are each appointed a time!
For what day are these postponed?
It is the Day of Judgment.
What will explain to you what the Day of Judgment is?
Beware that day, rejecters of truth.
Did We not destroy ancient peoples?
Then, We caused later people to follow them.
That’s how We treat sinners.
Beware that day, rejecters of truth.
Did We not create you from a disgusting fluid [semen]?
We placed it in a safe place [the uterus].
[It stayed there] for a fixed time.
We determine. We are the best to determine.
Beware that day, rejecters of truth.
Did We not cause the earth to bring together…
…the living and the dead?
[Did We not] make on it mountains standing firmly and proudly? [Did We not] provide good water for you?
Beware that day, rejecters of truth.
Depart to that which you rejected as false.
Depart to shadows of three columns.
No cool shade is there and no shelter from the fierce blaze.
It becomes a tower of shooting sparks.
It looks like [a race of] yellow camels.
Beware that day, rejecters of truth.
That will be a day when they will not be able to speak.
They will not be allowed to make excuses.
Beware that day, rejecters of truth.
That will be the Day of Judgment. We shall assemble you and your predecessors.
If you have a scheme, go ahead and use it against Me [your Lord].
Beware that day, rejecters of truth.
The righteous shall be amid shades, fountains,…
…and fruits –all that they desire.
Eat and drink to your heart’s content because of your works.
Thus do We certainly reward those who live righteously.
Beware that day, rejecters of truth.
Eat and enjoy yourselves a little while, while you are sinners.
Beware that day, rejecters of truth.
When it is said to them, “Prostrate yourselves,” they do not.
Beware that day, rejecters of truth.
What message after that will they believe?
