Has there not been a time over humanity when he/she was nothing –not even a mention?
We created humanity from a union of gametes so that We may test him/her. We gave him/her [the gifts of] hearing and sight.
We showed him/her the way, whether he/she is grateful or ungrateful.
For the unbelievers, We have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing fire.
As for the righteous, they shall drink from a cup, a mix of [a soothing tonic of] camphor.
[It will be] from a fountain where the worshipers of Allah drink. It will flow in unhindered abundance.
(The righteous) perform vows [of spiritual service]. They fear the day from which dread flies far and wide.
They provide food, in spite of their own want for it. [They provide it] to the indigent, the orphan, and the captive.
“Truly, We feed you for the sake of Allah alone. We expect no reward or thanks from you.
“We fear from our Lord a day of severe difficulty [if we do not follow His will].”
But Allah will deliver them from the harm of that day and will shed over them radiance and joy.
Because they were patient, He will reward them with a garden and silk.
Reclining in (the garden) on raised thrones, they will experience neither the sun [ie, unbearable heat] nor excessive cold.
The shades [of the garden] will hang near them. Bunches of fruit will hang low and accessible.
Among them will be passed vessels of silver and goblets of crystal.
[They will be] crystal clear and with silver. They will determine however much they want.
They will be given to drink a cup, mixed with ginger.
[It will be] from a fountain called Seek the Way.
Around them will be immortal youths. If you saw them, you would think of them as scattered pearls [so unblemished are they].
When you look around, you will see a blissful and magnificent realm.
Upon (the believers) will be green garments of fine silk and heavy brocade. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure and holy [non-intoxicating] drink.
Truly, this is a reward for you, and your endeavor is recognized.
We have bestowed upon you the Qur’an in portions.
Therefore, be patient for the command of your Lord. Do not heed the sinner or the disbeliever.
Remember the Name of your Lord morning and evening.
Part of the night, prostrate to Him. Glorify Him all through the night.
Truly, these [sinners] love the present life and disregard the difficult Day [of Judgment].
We created them and made their bodies durable. When We will, we can change their bodies into similar ones.
Truly, this is reminder: Whosoever will come may come to the [Straight] Way of the Lord.
But you cannot come except in accordance with Allah’s will. Indeed, Allah is the All-knowing, the Perfectly Wise.
He will admit to His mercy whom He will, but for the lost He has prepared a dreadful penalty.
