Read, in the name of your Lord the one who created,
He created man from a clot.
Read, and your Lord is the Most Generous,
The one who taught with the pen,
He taught man what he did not know.
Not so, indeed, man is surely immoderate,
That he saw him free of need.
Indeed, to your Lord is the return.
Have you seen the one who forbids
A servant when he prays?
Have you seen if he was upon the guidance
Or He commanded piety?
Have you seen if he denied and turned away?
Did he not know that God sees?
Not so, surely, if he does not desist, surely We will drag by the forelock,
A lying, sinful forelock.
Then let him call his assemblies;
Soon We will call the angels of hell.
Not so, do not obey him. And prostrate and draw near.
