READ (or proclaim), in the name of your Lord! Who create
Created man from a clot
Read (or proclaim), for your Lord is most Bountiful
Who teaches by the pen
Taught man what he did not know
Nay, verily, man is indeed rebelliou
In that he thinks himself independent (or self-sufficient or rich)
Verily, unto your Lord is the return
Have you considered him who forbids
A servant when he prays
Have you considered if he were in guidanc
Or bade piety
Have you considered if he denied the truth, and turned his back
Does he not know that Allah can see
Nay, surely, if he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock
The lying sinful forelock
So let him call his council (or comrades)
We will call the guards of Hell
Nay, obey him not, but adore and draw nigh (unto Allah)
