Surah “The City, This Countryside”

as rendered by Samy Mahdy — 20 verses

Nay, I swear by this Town.
And you a dweller (Has free law authority) in this town.
And by a father and what he fathered.
Already We created the human, in suffering.
Does he consider that no one is capable against him?
He says, “I have destroyed an abundant accumulated’ money.”
Does he consider that no one saw him?
Did We not set up for him, two eyes?
And a tongue, and two lips?
And We guided him, the two highways (Good and evil)?
So he did not break into the Obstacle.
And what cognizes you, what the Obstacle is?
A freeing of a Neck (Slave).
Or feeding on a day possessor of famine.
An orphan possessor of consanguinity.
Or a needy possessor of indigence.
Then he was among those who believed, and enjoined by patience, and enjoined by the mercy.
Those are the right-side companions (The Happiness).
And those who disbelieved with Our verses, they are the companions of the inauspiciousness.
Upon them is a padlocked Fire.
