Surah “The City, This Countryside”

as rendered by OLD Literal Word for Word — 20 verses

Nay! I swear by this city
And you (are) free (to dwell) in this city
And the begetter and what he begot
Certainly, We have created man (to be) in hardship
Does he think that not has power over him anyone
He will say, "I have squandered wealth abundant.
Does he think that not sees him anyone
Have not We made for him two eyes
And a tongue, and two lips
And shown him the two ways
But not he has attempted the steep path
And what can make you know what the steep path (is)
(It is) freeing a neck
Or feeding in a day of severe hunger
An orphan of near relationship
Or a needy person in misery
Then he is of those who believe and enjoin (each other) to patience, and enjoin (each other) to compassion
Those (are the) companions (of) the right (hand)
But those who disbelieve in Our Verses, they (are the) companions (of) the left (hand)
Over them, (will be the) Fire closed in
