Surah “The City, This Countryside”

as rendered by Torres Al Haneef (partial translation) — 20 verses

"No, I swear by this citty (of Makkah) --"
and you (Mu?ammad) are a free man of this city
"by the father and his children,"
surely We have created man to endure hardship
Does he think that no one has power over him
"He (boastfully) says, 'I have spent so much money on whatever I wanted.'"
Does he think that no one sees him
"Have We not given him two eyes,"
"and a tongue and two lips,"
and shown him the two main roads (to good and evil)
But he has not tried the steep path
and what will make you understand what the steep path is
"It is to free a slave,"
"or to feed, on a day of hunger,"
"an orphan in the family,"
or some poor man in need
"and to be one of those who have faith, and encourage each other to patiently endure, and encourage each other to have mercy."
They are the Companions of the Right Hand
"And as for those who do not believe in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand;"
"above them is a Fire, enclosed."
