Surah “The Dawn, Daybreak”

as rendered by The Wise Quran Project — 30 verses

By the dawn.
By ten nights.
By the even and the odd.
By the night when it spreads.
Is there in that an oath for a possessor of understanding?
Did you not see how your Lord did with 'Ad,
Iram, possessors of the columns,
The like of which was not created in the lands,
And Thamud, those who hollowed out the rocks in the valley,
And Pharaoh, the possessor of the stakes?
Those who were immoderate in the lands,
Then they multiplied corruption in them.
So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.
Indeed, your Lord is surely in the place of watching.
So as for man, when his Lord tests him, then honours him and favours him, then he says, 'My Lord honoured me.'
And as for when He tests him, then straitens for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord abased me.'
Not so, nay, you do not honour the orphan.
And you do not urge one another on the food of the poor person.
And you consume the inheritance, collecting, consuming.
And you love wealth, much love.
Not so, when the earth is crushed, crushing, crushing.
And your Lord comes and the angels row by row.
And hell is brought on that day. On that day man will remember. And how will he have the reminder?
He will say, 'O I wish I sent forward for my life.'
So on that day no one will punish as His punishing,
And no one will bind as His binding.
O at ease soul!
Return to your Lord, pleased, pleasing.
So enter among My servants,
And enter My garden.
