Surah “The Dawn, Daybreak”

as rendered by A.L. Bilal Muhammad et al (2018) — 30 verses

By the dawn
By the ten nights
By the even and odd
And by the night when it passes away
Is there not in these an oath for those who understand
Do you not see how your Lord dealt with the ‘Ad
Of Iram, with lofty pillars
The like of which were not produced in all the land
And with the Thamud, who carved out rocks in the valley
And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes
All of these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands
And spread corruption therein
Therefore your Lord poured on them a scourge of diverse chastisements
For your Lord is on a watchtower
Now, as for humanity, when their Lord tries them, giving them honor and gifts, they then say, “My Lord has honored me.
But when He tries them, restricting subsistence from them, he says then, “My Lord has humiliated me.
But no, you do not honor the orphans
Nor do you encourage one another to feed the poor
And you devour inheritance, all with greed
And you love wealth with inordinate love
No, when the earth is pounded to powder
And your Lord comes, and His angels, rank upon rank
And hell, that day, is brought forth, on that day will the human being remember, but how will that remembrance profit him
He will say, “I wish that I had invested in my life.
For that day, their chastisement will be such as none else can inflict
And His bonds will be such as none other can bind
To the righteous soul it will be said, “O you soul in complete rest and satisfaction
“Come back to your Lord, well pleased, and well-pleasing
“Enter then among My devotees
“Yes, enter My paradise
