Surah “The Overwhelming, The Overwhelming Calamity, The Pall”

as rendered by Dr. Munir Munshey — 26 verses

Has the news of that overwhelming (calamity) reached you
(Many) faces that day would be (panic struck and) down cast
Weary and toiling
Burning in the scorching fire
Made to drink from the boiling spring
And having nothing to eat, except (the bitter thorny) cactus
Not enough to nourish or curb the hunger
(Other) faces that day would be happy (and blissful)
Well pleased with (the outcome of) their efforts
In the exalted paradise
There, they shall hear nothing vile or foolish
In paradise, there are gushing springs
And elevated thrones
And carved (exotic) goblets
And cushions set in rows
And spread out (lush rich) carpet
Do they not look at the camel (and wonder)? How (superbly) is it created
And at the sky; how (high) is it raised
And at the mountains; how (firmly) are they planted
And at the earth; how (wide) is it spread out
So, (continue to) remind (them). Indeed, you are (a messenger) to remind (them)
You are not (appointed) a warden over them
As for the one who turns away and disbelieves
Allah will punish him with the direst torment
Of course, back to Us is their return (journey)
Indeed, to call them to accounts is upon Us
