Surah “The Rising of the Dead, Resurrection”

as rendered by Syed Vickar Ahamed — 40 verses

I swear by the day of Resurrection (when the dead shall be awakened)
And I swear by the spirit that blames itself
Does man think that We cannot assemble his bones together
Yes! We are able to put together the very tips of his fingers perfectly
But man wishes to do wrong (even) in the time (now) for the time that is to come
He asks: "When is the Day (of Resurrection)on which the dead shall be awakened?"
(Say:) "Soon, when the sight is bewildered
And the moon is buried in darkness
"And the sun and moon are joined together,"—
On that Day man will say: "Where is the place to flee?"
By no means! (There will be) no place of safety
Before your Lord, that Day will be the place of rest
On the Day will man be told (all) that he put in front of him and all that he put behind
No! Man will be (a true) evidence against himself
Even though he may give his excuses
Move not your tongue (O Prophet!) about the (Quran) to hurry on with it (in its reading)
It is for Us to put it together and to make it known and be recited
And when We have it (known to you), then you follow its recitation (and form)
Then, it is for Us to explain it (and to make it clear)
But no, (you men!) you love the present life of this world
And neglect (and put aside) the Hereafter
Some faces that Day, will glow (in brightness and beauty):—
Looking towards their Lord
And some faces that Day, will be sad and sorry
In the fear that some back-breaking unhappy action was about to be started upon them
Yes, when (the soul) reaches the collar-bone (as it leaves the body
And when there will be a cry (saying:), "Who is a magician (to put him together)?"
And he will conclude that it was (the time) of leaving (this world)
And one leg will be joined with another leg
(All) the drive (movement) on that Day will be to your Lord
But he disregarded (the truth), and he did not pray
And even more, he lied (against the truth) and turned away
Then he went back to his family with false pride
Suffering and sorrow to you (woe unto you, O man!), and a great suffering to you
Again, suffering and sorrow to you (woe unto you, O man!), and a great suffering to you
Does man think that he will be neglected (and left alone), (without purpose for which he was created)
Was he not a drop of sperm emitted (without any form)
Then did he become a leech-like clot; Then (Allah) made and gave (him) the right size and shape
He made two sexes, male and female of him
Does He not have, the Power to give life to the dead
