Surah “The Reality, The Inevitable”

as rendered by The Wise Quran Project — 52 verses

The reality.
What is the reality?
And what will make you know what the reality is?
Thamud and 'Ad called the sudden calamity a lie;
So as for Thamud, then they were destroyed with the thunderbolt;
And as for 'Ad, then they were destroyed with a violent, intensely cold wind.
He subjected it against them seven nights and eight days inauspiciously. And you see the people in it prostrate as if they were trunks of palm trees fallen down,
And can you see a remnant of them?
And Pharaoh and who was before him and the overturned cities came with the sin,
And they rebelled against the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them, an increasing seizing.
Indeed We, when the water surged, We carried you in the ship,
That We may make it a reminder for you and that a retentive ear may retain it.
Then when the horn is blown in, one blast,
And the earth and the mountains are carried and both are crushed, one crushing;
Then on that day the event will happen;
And the heaven will split, so it is on that day unsound,
And the angels on its sides, and eight will carry the throne of your Lord above them on that day.
On that day you will be exposed, a secret of you will not be hidden.
Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, he will say, 'Here! Read my book!
Indeed I, I thought that I would meet my reckoning.'
And he is in a pleasing life,
In a lofty garden,
Its cluster of fruits near.
'Eat and drink with good digestion for what you did previously in the past days.'
And as for him who is given his book in his left hand, then he will say, 'O I wish I had not been given my book
And knew not what my reckoning is.
O I wish it was the end.
My wealth has not availed me.
My authority has perished from me.'
Take him and fetter him,
Then the hellfire burn him.
Then in a chain, its length is seventy cubits, then insert him.
Indeed he, he does not believe in God, the Great,
And he does not urge on the food of the poor.
So there is not for him here today a close friend,
Nor food except dirty wash water,
None will eat it except the sinners.
So I swear by what you see,
And what you do not see,
Indeed, it is surely speech of a noble messenger;
And it is not speech of a poet; little is what you believe.
And not speech of a soothsayer; little is what you remember.
A revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
And if he lied against Us some of the sayings,
Surely We would have seized him by the right hand;
Then surely We would have cut off from him the aorta;
And not one of you preventers from him.
And indeed, it is surely a reminder for those who fear;
And indeed We, surely We know that among you are deniers;
And indeed, it is surely regret upon the disbelievers;
And indeed, it is surely the truth of the certainty.
So glorify with the name of your Lord, the Great.
