Surah “The Event, The Inevitable, That Which is Coming”

as rendered by Abdul Hye — 96 verses

When the event (the Day of Resurrection) will befall,
there will be no denying of its befalling,
it will bring low (to some), it will exalt (for others).
When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake,
and the mountains will be powdered to dust,
so that they will become floating dust particles.
And then you all will be in 3 kinds (separate groups):
those on the right hand (receive their records in right hands) who will be those on the right hand (will go to Paradise);
and those on the left hand (receive their records in left hands) who will be those on the left hand (will go to hell);
and those foremost (in Islamic faith) will be foremost (in Paradise).
Those will be nearest (to Allah),
in the gardens of delight (Paradise).
A most of them will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam)
and a few will be from the later generations.
(They will be) on thrones of gold and precious stones,
reclining on them face to face,
immortal youths will go round serving them
with cups, jugs, and glasses of flowing wine,
from where they will neither get any pain of the head, nor they will get any intoxication.
(They will have) fruits of their own choice
and the flesh of fowls that they may desire,
and Huris (chaste virgins) with wide lovely eyes,
like guarded pearls,
as a reward for what they used to do (good deeds).
They will neither hear any vain talk therein nor any sinful speech,
but the saying of Salam! Salam! (greetings with peace)!
And those on the right hand who will be those on the right hand.
(They will be) among thornless lote-trees,
and among banana trees with fruits piled one above another,
and in long-extended shade,
and by water flowing constantly,
and fruit in plenty
whose season is not limited and their supply will not be cut off,
and on high raised couches or thrones.
Surely, We have created them (maidens) of special creation
and made them virgins
loving (their husbands only), equal in age,
for those on the right hand.
A large number will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam)
and a large number will be from the later generations.
And those on the left hand - will be those on the left hand.
(They will be) in fierce hot wind and boiling water,
and in the shadow of black smoke,
(that shadow is) neither cool, nor good.
Surely, they were indulged in luxury before,
and were persisting in great sin
and they used to say: “When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected?
and also our forefathers?”
Say (O Muhammad): “Surely, those of old, and those of later times,
all will surely be gathered together to an appointed meeting of well known Day.
Then surely, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection),
surely you will eat of trees of Zaqqum,
then you will fill your bellies with it,
and drink from the boiling water on it,
yet, you will drink like thirsty camels!”
That will be their entertainment on the Day of Resurrection.
We created you, then why do you not believe?
You see what you emit (semen).
Is it you who create it (make this semen into a human), or are We the creator?
We have decreed the death among you and We are not unable
to transfigure you by others like yourselves and creates you in forms that you don’t know.
And indeed, you know the first form of creation (of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed?
Do you see (the seed) that you sow (in the ground)?
Is it you who make it grow, or are We the grower?
If We willed, We could surely make it into dry pieces and you would be regretful:
(saying): “We are indeed ruined,
nay, but we are deprived (from the results of our work)!”
Do you see the water that you drink?
Is it you who cause it to come down from the rain clouds or are We Who cause it to come down?
If We willed, We could make it salty (undrinkable). Why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)?
Do you see the fire which you kindle?
Is it you who made the tree to grow, or are We the grower?
We have made it a reminder (of the hellfire in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travelers.
Then glorify the name of your Lord, the great.
Surely I swear by the setting of the stars,
and surely, that is a great oath, if you know,
surely, this is indeed a honorable recital (the Qur’an)
in a book well-guarded (with Allah),
which none can touch it (the Qur’an with Allah) except the purified (angels),
a revelation (this Qur’an) from the Lord of the worlds.
Is it such a talk (this Qur’an) that you (disbelievers) deny
and (instead of thanking Allah for) your provision He gives you, you deny (Him)?
Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat
while you are looking at that moment,
but We are nearer to him than you, but you don’t see (Allah).
Why do you not, if you are exempt from the reckoning and recompense,
bring back the soul (to its body) if you are truthful?
Then, if the dying person be of those brought near (to Allah),
for him there is rest and provision, and a garden of delights (Paradise).
Yet if the dying person be of those on the right hand,
then (there is greeting) ‘Peace be upon you’ for those from those on the right hand.
Yet if the dying person is one of the denying (of the Resurrection), the erring
then (for him there) is entertainment from boiling water,
and burning in hellfire.
Surely, this is an absolute truth with certainty.
So glorify with praises the name of your Lord, the greatest.
