Surah “Muhammad”

as rendered by Zulfiquar Ali Bhotto — 38 verses

Those who disbelieved and hindered [others] from the way of Allah - He strayed their deeds.
And those who believed and worked the righteous deeds and believed in what was sent down upon Muhammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He remitted from them their misdeeds and assured their hearts.
That is because those who disbelieved [Qur'an 47: 1 ] followed the lie, and those who believed [Qur'an 47: 2 ] follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allah present for the mankind their examples.
So when you encounter [in battle] those who disbelieved, then strike the necks until, when you have subdued them. Then you [believers] bind their bonds. So either you favour them afterwards [release them for free] or ransom until the war lays down its burdens. That [is all]. And if Allah had willed, He could have exacted retribution from them [by Himself], but He is to try some of you with others. And those who are killed in the way of Allah, so He will not stray their deeds.
He will guide them and assure their hearts
And will admit them into Paradise, He made it known to them [while dying].
O you who believed, if you victory Allah, He will victory you and make firm your feet.
And those who disbelieved, so destruction is for them, and He strayed their deeds.
That is because they disliked what Allah has sent down, so He made their works void.
Have they not walked through the earth for observing how was the end of those before them? Allah poured destruction upon them, and for the infidels is something alike.
That is because Allah is the protector of those who believed and surely the infidels there is no protector for them.
Indeed, Allah will admit those who believed and worked the righteous deeds to paradises, flowing from beneath it are the rivers. And those who disbelieved enjoy themselves and eat like the livestock eat, and the Fire will be an adobe for them.
And so many of a town were stronger in strength than your city which drove you out [O Muhammad]? We destroyed them; so there was no helper for them.
So is he who was upon a proof from his Lord like him who his evil work was made attractive to him and they follow their desires?
Example of the Paradise, which is promised to the righteous. In it are rivers of unpolluted water, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious for the drinkers, and rivers of purified honey. And for them therein would be from all products [fruits] and forgiveness from their Lord. Is he like who abides eternally in the Fire and they are given to drink scalding water, so it cuts-up their intestines?
And from them [the looser] is he who listens to you [O Muhammad], until when they exit from your hosting, they say to those [believers] who were given the knowledge, "What has he said just now?" Those are the ones who Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and they followed their desires.
And those who accepted guidance, He has increased them in guidance and He has granted them their righteousness.
So do they await except the Hour that, it should come upon them suddenly? But its indications has already come. So how shall it would be for them, when it actually came to them, their reminder?
So know, [O Muhammad], that there is no god except Allah and ask forgiveness for your misdeed and for the believing men and the believing women. And Allah knows of your [followers: men, women] movement and your [followers: men, women] adobes.
Those who believe say, "If only a chapter is sent down? But when an exposing chapter is sent down and fighting is mentioned therein, you [O Muhammad] see those in whose hearts is a disease looking to you with a look of one fainting from the death. But more appropriate for them-
Obedience and a good word. And when the matter [of fighting] was determined then if they had been true to Allah, it would have been much better for them.
So would you perhaps, if you [hypocrites] turned away that you cause corruption in the earth and sever your family ties?
Those whom Allah has cursed them, so He deafened them and blinded their vision.
Then do they not ponder over the Qur'an, or are there locks upon their hearts?
Indeed, those who reverted upon their back after any of the guidance was clearly shown to them, Satan enticed them and filled them with false hopes.
That is because they said to those [the Jews] who hated what Allah has sent down, "We will obey you in the matter partially." And Allah knows their secrets.
Then how would it be when the angels would recall them [from their pasts, Qur'an 47:25, Qur'an 47:28], striking their faces and their backs?
That would be about that they followed what angered Allah and they hated His pleasure, and He nullified their deeds.
Or do those who in their hearts is a disease think that Allah would not expose their malice?
And if We willed, We could show them to you [O Muhammad], and you would know them by their marks. And you will surely know them by their speech tone. And [O men] Allah knows your works.
And We will surely try you until We make evident the striving ones from you and the patient ones, and We will try your news [in the book of deeds].
Indeed, those who disbelieved and hindered [others] from the path of Allah and opposed the Messenger after any of the guidance was clearly shown to them, never will they harm Allah in anything, and He will nullify their works.
O you who believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and do not void you works [Qur'an 47:32].
Indeed, those who disbelieved and hindered [others] from the path of Allah and then died while they were infidels, so never will Allah forgive them.
So do not be weak and call for peace while you [O Believers] have the upper hand; and Allah is with you and will not deprive you of your works.
The worldly life is only play and amusement. And if you believe and fear Allah, He will give you your rewards and He is not asking you, your wealth.
If He asks you for it then press you, you would withhold, and He would bring forth your unwillingness.
Here you are - these called to spend in the way of Allah. So from you are some who withhold. And whoever withholds, he only withholds from himself. And Allah is the Rich, while you are the poor. And if you turn away, He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.
